Examinations

1. Color Doppler ultrasound

It is the exam with ultrasounds that evaluates mostly from the functional, but also anatomical aspect the blood vessels. Utilizing the direct visualization and especially monitoring the functional parameters, like jet speed in different points of the vessels, it is evaluated the anatomical integrity and functionality of the vessels, and diagnosed their pathology, its location and the grade of damage. Through these criteria it is possible to follow in dynamics the disease progression, also patient follow up after the treatment. This exam has high sensibility and sensitivity, diagnosing or excluding the vascular pathologies with high precision. On the other side, it is not harmful for the patient, because it utilizes the ultra sounds, and can be done several times. Color Doppler ultrasound is the basic exam for vascular disease.

With this exam it is possible to evaluate the carotid arteries, abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, also the arteries and veins of the lower and upper extremities.

What are the diagnosis defined by this method:

-evaluation of the grade of atherosclerosis

-screening and diagnosis of carotid arteries stenosis

-screening and diagnosis of abdominal aorta and peripheral arteries aneurisms

-diagnosis of obliterant arteropathy of the extremities.

-evaluation of the integrity of the vascularization of the inferior extremities in diabetic patients.

-differential diagnosis of the wounds in the legs

-diagnosis of the deep vein thrombosis of lower extremities

-diagnosis of varicose veins of the inferior extremities, also superficial tromboflebitis

-evaluation of the vessels for vascular access for dialysis.

-follow-up of the function and diagnosis of the complications of the vascular access for dialysis

Color Doppler ultrasound  is valuable also during the treatment of some vascular pathologies, like; varicose vein treatment with sclerotherapy and radiofrequence (thermal ablation).

Color Doppler ultrasound of the vessels is valuable also in cardiac pathologies to evaluate:

-if there are stenosis of the carotid arteries in a patient that will undergo surgery for coronary bypass surgery

-if there is an aneurism of the abdominal aorta in a patient with aneurism of the ascendant aorta

-to evaluate the vascularity in the extremities in a patient with aortic disecation

-to evaluate the possible etiology of the thrombi in a patient with lung thromboembolism

-to evaluate the renal arteries in a patient with severe high blood pressure

2. Angioscanner (ANGIO CT)

This is an imaging method that is utilized to evaluate the blood vessels. With this method it is possible to evaluate all body compartments. It is mostly utilized for arterial system, but also the venous system. it is a fast and precise method, which gives valuable anatomical details to plan the different treatment procedures. This kind of exam is mostly specific in different vascular traumas, when ultrasound and other exams cannot give valuable information

It is frequently utilized for the localization of the stenosis of the carotid arteries and their brances:

- To evaluate the parameters and extension of the aneurisms of the aorta and its brances.

- To diagnose aortic dissection and rupture of its aneurisms

- To diagnose and localize the vascular lesions in traumas

- To evaluate vascular malformations

- To evaluate the extension of obliterant arteropathy of the extremities

3. Peripheral angiographt

The invasive exam performed utilizing the x-rays, in the hemodynamic theater and which serves mostly for endovascular interventions of iliac, femoral and chin arteries.

4. Lymphoscintigram

This is an exam that utilized radioactive farmaceuticals for the diagnosis of lymphedema
